HP on Thursday announced the acquisition of California-based endpoint security solutions provider Bromium. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Bromium has been providing the technology that powers HP’s Sure Click tool, which is designed to protect PCs against malware. As a result of the acquisition, the cybersecurity firm’s technology will be used by HP’s existing security platform to improve protection for endpoint devices.

Bromium provides virtualization-based technology designed to block email, browser and other types of attacks.

HP says Bromium’s solutions complement its security platform with hardware-enforced isolation and containment. By combining the technology with its Sure Sense, Sure Start and Sure View products, HP hopes to improve protection against sophisticated malware and enhance firmware and BIOS protection.

“Security is a key competitive differentiator for HP, providing the most secure PCs and printers on the market,” said Andy Rhodes, GM and Global Head of Commercial Systems at HP. “The acquisition of Bromium extends our investments, leadership and focus in this space and securing end point devices that are on the front lines of defense against cyber security attacks.”
