Check Point to Acquire AI Security Firm Lakera

Move highlights rising demand for AI-native security as enterprises face new risks from generative models and autonomous agents

Check Point Software Technologies today announced plans to acquire Lakera, a Zurich and San Francisco-based company specializing in security for Agentic AI applications.

The announcement comes on the same day that CrowdStrike announced plans to acquire AI security firm Pangea, and reflects growing enterprise demand for safeguarding generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and autonomous agents as they become embedded in enterprise operations.

“AI is transforming every business process, but it also introduces new attack surfaces,” said Nadav Zafrir, CEO of Check Point Software Technologies.

Founded by AI researchers with backgrounds at Google and Meta, Lakera has developed products including Lakera Red (for pre-deployment posture assessments) and Lakera Guard (for runtime enforcement). The company emphasizes continuous red teaming and runtime protection against issues like prompt injection and data leakage. Its approach is reinforced by Gandalf, a large adversarial AI network used for training defenses.

While Check Point already offers security solutions for generative AI and SaaS applications through its Infinity architecture, the addition of Lakera is expected to extend these capabilities and provide end-to-end protection for the AI lifecycle, from pre-deployment testing to real-time monitoring of production environments.

Upon closing, Lakera will form the basis of Check Point’s new Global Center of Excellence for AI Security, focused on accelerating research and integrating AI security into Check Point’s broader platform.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to standard closing conditions. Financial details were not publicly disclosed, but Check Point has reportedly agreed to pay an estimated $300 million to acquire Lakera.
